Yue est un jeune garçon né dans un sanctuaire situé sur une montagne aux abords de la ville d'Utsuwa.
Un jour, son ami d'enfance, un renard noir nommé Kurogitsune, l'emmène voir un festival d'hiver.
Les lanternes brûlent d'un rouge éclatant et les gens sont en pleine effervescence. Alors que Yue voit le monde extérieur pour la première fois de sa vie, il rencontre deux garçons mystérieux.
De retour à la montagne, alors que Yue raconte ses aventures au responsable du sanctuaire, Mikoto, il lui ordonne soudainement de préparer le "repas".
