Tim Burton a voulu pour 'Beetlejuice', qui était son second film, utiliser la gamme la plus large possible d'effets spéciaux. Outre les trucages optiques sophistiqués, propres à la génération de l'après-Guerre des Étoiles, il eut recours à des méthodes existant depuis les débuts du cinéma comme les effets de miroir incorporés à la caméra.
Improvisation (Anecdote)
De l'aveu même de Burton, 95% des dialogues du personnage Betelgeuse furent improvisés par Keaton. C'est pourquoi Michael Keaton est -véritablement- Betelgeuse.
Betelgeuse (Anecdote)
Les séquences dans lesquelles Betelgeuse lit la rubrique nécrologique du journal, et se retrouve la tête rétrécie, ont été rajoutées après les projections-tests. Le public avait exprimé le souhait de voir plus souvent le personnage dans le film.
